On-Site Services: Our research room is open for on-site (in-person) services. This is by appointment only and requires an advance consultation prior to being scheduled. The purpose of the consultation is to learn more about your topic, assist you with identifying responsive materials, direct you to helpful resources, and to provide an overview of our policies & procedures. Contact Us to request this consultation. The consultation itself can take place via email, phone, and/or video meeting. 

Research Room Hours 

Monday - Friday • 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
(Closed on all federal holidays.)

Arrivals and Departures

Limited staff availability and security issues require a scheduled arrival and departure. All scheduled researchers will be admitted to the facility and checked in by security at 9 a.m. You should be prepared to depart the reading room promptly at 4 p.m. to allow for check out by security.  

On-Site Services

Food and Drink: Researchers are permitted to keep lunches of sealable food and a sealed water bottle in their locker. Water fountains will only be available to refill bottles. These items may be consumed at the tables in the first floor foyer. No food or drinks are permitted in the research room. 

Supplies: Paper for taking notes can be provided on a limited basis. Researchers are encouraged to take notes using their phone, tablet, laptop, or other device. Researchers may bring their equipment (on the approved NARA list) to copy materials. Hand sanitizer is not allowed in the research area.

Copiers: Copy machines are available for use.

Records Availability: Please be advised that if records are in use by another researcher, that will impact our ability to make them available to you within your appointment window. We will try to avoid this potential overlap to the extent possible.

Virtual Services: Staff can also provide virtual reference support. This includes responding to reference inquiries via email, phone, and/or History Hub, as well as providing reproduction services.
